Eating Disorders and Education

Who should attend: teachers, school nurses, support workers, classroom assistants, matrons, youth workers and anyone working with young people or in an education setting.
About the event: Eating Disorders and Education is a beat event for anyone working in education or with young people who want to learn more about eating disorders; how to prevent them and how to support those affected.
The afternoon will cover various useful topics, including signs and symptoms, practical support strategies and confidentiality, and will also feature a presentation from a beat Young Ambassador about their personal experience of an eating disorder.

Recent Advances in the Management of Eating Disorders

The speciality of eating disorders is rapidly developing and the evidence base for treatments is expanding, providing professionals with a significant challenge in order to remain up-to-date with progress in the field. This conference will explore the evidence behind some of the more widely used treatment approaches and consider where services could develop in the future. It is specifically designed for those with an interest in, or specialising in the management of eating disorders and is intended to share experience and evidence of recent developments from a national perspective and across a variety of treatment modalities.

Royal College of Psychistrists Eating Disorders Annual Conference 2010 - 5th November
Theme: ‘Obesity and Eating Disorders: Why do Eating Disorders services give the obese a bypass?’
A national, one-day conference, examining the complex relationships between obesity, eating disorders and current approaches to treatment. Environmental and genetic contributions to risk, the neurobiology of obesity and outcomes from psychological and surgical interventions for binge eating disorder and obesity will be reviewed. This will provide an evidenced based context for a lively debate to examine the interface between eating disorder and obesity services across the life span.
The conference is open to all and will be of appeal to psychiatrists, psychologists, physicians, surgeons, dietitians, mental health nurses/professionals in child and adolescent/adult services with an interest in obesity, and all those who feel this knowledge would benefit them.
