beat's promise - Maidstone, Kent Support Group
What could be gentle and kind, held fortnightly and never, ever judgemental?
Why, the answer could only be a support group! Our particular group which fits all of the above criteria is held in a comfortable room at Priority House, Hermitage Road, Maidstone on the second and fourth Mondays of each month.
The meetings start at 7.30pm and finish at 9.30pm and we ask for a £2 donation to cover expenses. This support for sufferers and carers of eating disorders has been available in Kent for twenty years, but remains a little known fact, alas, except of course to the people who feel the benefit of attending or now, to those who are reading the website! Sharing feelings of despair and lack of control with others who have problems around food – although we all know that food is just a symptom, and the real problems are linked to low self esteem and self worth to name just two – sharing some of this, being honest, and listening to others being honest, is a huge early step on the road to recovery for many with anorexia or bulimia.
Tina and I (I’m Kathy) are both trained, working under the umbrella of beat, which is the great new brand name chosen to replace Eating Disorder Association. beat’s promise is that eating disorders can be beaten! Although the real work and responsibility to recover lies with the sufferer, we are there at the group to offer help and encouragement towards keeping that promise.
