beat is the leading UK charity for people with eating disorders and their families. beat is the working name of the Eating Disorders Association, and we continue to build on the strong foundations of the past 18 years of work.

Eating disorders are a serious mental illness affecting 1.1 million people in the UK. beat provides helplines for adults and young people, online support and a UK-wide network of self-help groups to help people beat their eating disorder.

beat's vision is simple: Eating Disorders will be Beaten.

beat is delighted to be the winner of a
GlaxoSmithKline IMPACT award, a major award recognising the success of its work.

Announcing the award, the judges praised beat as an “extremely innovative, well managed project that has used modern technology to change attitudes towards eating disorders."

As a winner of an IMPACT award, beat receives £25,000 from the King’s Fund, an independent charitable organisation working for better health via research, policy analysis and development activities.

Available clinically effective online interventions for bulimia sufferers and carers of anorexia sufferers

Media Innovations - specialist developers of cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) - have worked with beat and the Institute of Psychiatry to produce clinically trialled and proven online CBT-based interventions for those affected by eating disorders.
