Official comments
beat is happy to help with background information and briefings on all aspects of eating disorders.
Official beat views will only be given by the Chief Executive, Press Officer, members of the Executive Team, or through a Press Release.
beat can help to locate professionals working in the field of eating disorders who may be able to help with information about treatment and other aspects of eating disorders therapy.
Case study, contact and research database
beat has a database of members who have indicated they are willing to talk to medical and media researchers and journalists. These include case studies and professionals working in the field of eating disorders.
For further information contact:
Mary George Tel 0300 123 7061 e-mail media@b-eat.co.uk
Please note that for reasons of confidentiality we are unable to release information about our members. Contact by e-mail is free of charge but we do ask journalists and researchers to consider making a donation to beat . It is NOT normally possible to contact members by phone.
On receipt of the request, it is then up to the individual concerned to decide whether or not they wish to help with the project on hand. beat will not put any pressure on its Members to take part in any media-related activity, if they do not voluntarily respond.
We do ask all enquirers to remember that people involved in eating disorders can be very vulnerable and that an unfortunate experience with the media may cause a relapse or other deterioration of their condition. Bearing this in mind, and the fact that many journalists and researchers are working to a very tight schedule, beat cannot guarantee, at any time, to supply an interviewee in response to a request. The nature of an eating disorder means it is possible that sufferers may decide not to take part in the planned feature at the last moment.
We would appreciate information about when the relevant article or programme will appear. Please ensure that, whenever possible, the appropriate beat helpline numbers and e-mail address are included...
