Volunteering

Volunteering for beat

beat's vision is that eating disorders will be beaten.

Volunteers make a real difference to this vision and to the work of beat across the UK.

Eating disorders are typically characterised by stigma and shame, which can create a barrier to accessing support and treatment.

We want to change the way everyone thinks and talks about eating disorders and to help anyone believe that their eating disorder can be beaten.

We need your help to raise beat's profile, raise funds, improve and develop services such asassessing services using the beat assured quality mark, expanding the Self Help Network and helpline services, and to help us enhance what we do and make a real difference.

If you are interested in volunteering, please read through the information below and register your interest here

Please note that if you have personal experience of an eating disorder, we do ask that you have been recovered and out of treatment for a minimum period of two years before you support others (ie Self Help Network and Helplines)  This is to ensure your continued well-being and that your volunteering role does not have any negative effects on your own health.

You should be able to commit to the high standards that beat expects of its volunteers and in return, you will find your role rewarding and fulfilling.

All volunteers will be required to undergo an application, registration process and induction training.  References and CRB checks may also be required (please speak to the staff team for details)

beat participates

There are new opportunities through the beat participates projects to get involved in your local health services to help them understand the needs of people affected by eating disorders and help them to provide appropriate services.

beat assured assessors

You will be given full training in how to use our framework to assess services, and make recommendations for improvements so that they provide the best possible experience of treatment. You will then be able to help them to improve, set up new support services and make a real difference to eating disorder services in your local area.

To find out more, look at the beat assured quality mark section of the website and register your interest here.

Fundraising Volunteers:

There are many great ways you can get involved in fundraising for beat. How about jumping from a plane, holding a fashion show or choosing beat as your school or workplace Charity of the Year? The great thing about becoming a fundraising volunteer with beat is as well as raising money for a great cause, you can do it from anywhere in the country. The fundraising team will provide you with all the help and support you need to organise your event and guide you through the process of setting up your JustGiving page so you can easily ask everyone in your email address book to sponsor you to raise even more money!

We are always on the look out for fundraising volunteers to work in the busy beat head office in Norwich. If you have a few hours to spare each week and possess good organisational and administration skills you could make a real difference to our team. This opportunity would provide you with valuable work experience, make a positive contribution to your CV and allow you to make a real difference to the work of beat.
