Night Eating Syndrome

This problem isn't classified as eating disorders but can be just as hard to deal with.

What happens for you -

  • You don't feel like breakfast in the morning and have it later in the day. You might not feel hungry or feel upset about how much you ate the night before.
  • You eat more food in the evening than you did at your dinner time
  • You snack in the night time.
  • This has gone on for you for more than 2 months
  • You feel upset and guilty when you eat.
  • You find it difficult to fall asleep or to stay asleep. You wake up a lot and eat.
  • The food that you eat is often sugary or starchy food like crisps, biscuits, bread etc
  • You don't binge eat in small amounts of time you eat continually throughout the evening.
  • You don't enjoy this eating and it makes you feel ashamed and guilty.

Prader- Willi Syndrome

Prader- Willi Syndrome is not an eating disorder as such, in the sense that it does not have its roots in emotional problems, but is a genetic disorder that results in excessive eating from early childhood. People with Prader -Willi syndrome may not achieve full height growth; they may have bad temper tantrums and often have learning difficulties, all of which require specialist healthcare treatment. Pica

Pica is another disorder that is not strictly an eating disorder , as again it does not have its roots in emotional problems. Pica is where people eat things which contain no nutrition, these might include; dirt, stones, hair, faeces, lead, plastic, pencil erasers, paper, coal, chalk, and wood. Pica most commonly affects children, but it also affects people with developmental disabilities. Pica may be unusual but is not always dangerous, nevertheless it may result in accidental poisoning. Because pica may have serious medical consequences you should talk to your doctor about any worries you may have. Pica can occur during pregnancy.
