Hiding your tracks

When you visit websites your computer stores the information.

This page explains how to hide that you have been to our site or other sites that you may not want others using the same computer to know about.

We would prefer it if you could tell others your concerns but understand that this is not always possible and maybe you aren't ready yet.

It isn't really complicated, all you need to do is follow the instructions below for your web browser (either internet explorer, firefox, safari or chrome)


Instructions

Internet Explorer:

1.Quit Internet Explorer and quit any instances of Windows Explorer.

2.Click Start, click Control Panel, and then double-click Internet Options.

3. On the General tab, click Delete Files under Temporary Internet Files.

4. In the Delete Files dialog box, click to select the Delete all offline content check box , and then click OK.

5.Click OK.

Firefox:

1. At the top of the Firefox windowOn the menu bar, click on the Tools menu, and select Clear Private Data....

2. The Clear Private Data window will open, allowing your to select which private data you want to clear.

3. Check mark the data you want to clear, then click on Clear Private Data Now, to clear the data; or click on Cancel, to close the Clear Private Data window, without clearing any private data.

Safari 3.x.x. & 4.0beta 

2 Methods:

First Method: Private Browsing - this mode prevents any pages you visit from being added to the browsers history. 

Safari 3 Enable "Private Browsing" by clicking on the edit menu and selecting "Private Browsing"

Safari 4 Enable "Private Browsing" by clicking on the preferences icon (the cog or toothed wheel) and selecting "Private Browsing

Remember to turn "Private Browsing" off when you’ve finished.

Second Method - Manually delete Browsing History

For Safari 3

1. From History Menu select “Clear History”,

2. From Edit Menu select “Clear Cache”. 

 For Safari 4

1. Click on the Bookmarks icon (open book)

2. Select History

3. Either right click on the individual pages you want to delete and select delete or right click on "Last Visited Today" and select delete.

Google Chrome

2 Methods

First Method: Use an "Incognito" window, this works the same way as Private Browsing in Safari.

1. Click on the spanner icon and select "New Incognito Window" or use keyboard shortcut Ctrl + Shift + N

Second Method: Manually Delete Browser History

1. Click on the spanner icon and select "Clear Browsing History"

2. Select the items you want clearing from the browser history

3. Click OK.

 Remember to check you have deleted the history by closing you browser window, opening another and checking by going to the History page in the various browsers.
