A 5k challenge - Nicole Albutt, Research Officer

October 25, 2011 at 1:59 PM

Contemplating my blog for this week I considered a number of topics: representing Beat at the Vauxhall Fashion Scout casting event, attending the Eating Disorders Research Society annual conference in Edinburgh, and the progress of the Big Lottery funded research project I work on. Pondering this aloud in the office, a colleague suggested I write something about a personal challenge I’ve set myself – to run a 5k race. The idea for this originally came about from listening to inspiring stories of other budding runners in the office, so I will be following in their footsteps (quite literally!). Although running a 5k may not seem a huge challenge to some, I am an awful runner (truly, truly terrible), so building my endurance will require training and real dedication.

In true My Personal Best style, I’ve decided to set myself a goal of running a 5k race before Christmas. I’m lucky that my local park organises weekly races (albeit too early on a Saturday morning for my liking), so I’m aiming to take part in one of these. I’ll keep you updated and let you know nearer the time the date I set for myself. Wish me luck – I think I’ll need it to keep my motivation high through the cold, rain, and dark afternoons I’ll be training through! Now, where are my trainers...
