Along with all the excitement of the new website I’ve been very busy travelling to and from London to meet with the clinical team at the Vincent Square eating disorders service. We’re working with them on a Big Lottery research project, which is investigating cognitive behavioural therapy and cognitive analytical therapy in adult sufferers of anorexia. I’m really pleased to say that the project is well under way, and I can’t wait to see how the work will progress!
We hope that this research will further our understanding of which treatments work best, and for which patients, so that treatment can be as effective as possible. The project is also looking at patient choice, i.e. whether allowing patients to choose the type of therapy they have makes treatment more effective. At Beat, we always try to support research that we feel can help beat eating disorders, and we hope that this project will do just that. I’m really excited and honoured to be involved in such a great piece of work!
This is a long ongoing project, so there won’t be any results out for a while yet – but I will keep you updated with everything that’s happening. In the meantime, if you want to know more about other research work we’re doing, or if you’d like to get involved with research, have a look at the research section of the website. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask (and I’ll try my best to answer them!).
