Nearly the end of the week but the campaign marches on.....and I'm looking forward to lying down in a darkened room! I exaggerate, needless to say.
This year from a media point of view and thanks to the efforts of so many people we were able to place more stories in advance of the week itself. Beat media contacts opened their hearts to complete strangers so huge thanks to all those who agreed to be interviewed about their experiences. Our survey generated over 1,000 responses - a magical figure that we're always keen to achieve - so thanks are also due to everyone who participated. As a result of the survey we have many new media contacts - all valuable additions to our merry band of folks prepared to give their time, sometimes with varying results (they'll know what I mean..)
As ever our Beat Young Ambassadors did us proud - stepping up to the mark (or microphone) often with very little notice - they represented Beat on BBC Children's Newsround; ITV Daybreak; Channel 5 News and a variety of radio and printed media and a first has been a series of stories - 3 consecutive days on Newsround and ditto on Channel 5 News.
As I write this there has been more continuous media interest in Awareness Week than ever before and more people are generating their own interviews - the longer we can keep the interest going the better our chances of increasing awareness and 'Breaking the Silence.'
I'm off for that lie down...
