Since joining Beat last October I have been amazed at the varied activities I become involved with. Just looking at my diary since the beginning of 2012 has reminded me what working for Beat really means. While trying to avoid making a list, here are some of the things I’ve been involved with.
Eating Disorders Awareness Week comes up in February. This annual event is very important to Beat and our users – many Beat staff are planning this and everyone will be involved during the week itself. I’ve also been writing a Volunteering Funding Bid to extend our support group network. We’ve just had a visit from the Big Lottery. They are funding our Research Project, which is looking into two specific therapies used in Eating Disorder treatment.
I’ve recently represented Beat at the Specialised Healthcare Alliance Meeting at the House of Lords and am working with colleagues to maintain Beat’s Information Standard status. More recently I accompanied one of our Young Ambassadors to the BBC in Norwich to film a video shoot for an application for support from a major international accountancy firm. Beat are also recruiting for senior posts in Wales and Norwich, so we’ll be interviewing for these roles very soon.
As you can see my job is already very varied without even mentioning forthcoming work on NHS Accreditation and Budget setting, which are on the ‘to do’ list in the very near future. So, if variety is the spice of life, then mine is a truly tasty confection!
