Busy times at Beat - Susan Ringwood, Chief Executive

August 09, 2011 at 11:19 AM

We were delighted to be chosen as ‘Most Exciting Newcomer’ at the Nominet Awards.  These prestigious national awards give recognition to organisations which are demonstrating best practise and raising standards in use of the internet.  It was our ‘My Personal Best’ project that really caught the judges’ attention- and I am so glad they recognised the excellent work our team of volunteers have done- most wonderfully led by project officer Leila. Check it out here.

We’ve been busy with the media too in the last couple of weeks- responding to stories about a very significant increase in the numbers of young children aged 5-8 being treated for eating disorders.  We welcome the opportunity to raise awareness, challenge unhelpful stereotypes and tell the truth about eating disorders. Our opinion is sought by journalists and broadcasters worldwide, and we have noticed that recent coverage has been more compassionate and honest. If you see any coverage that is unhelpful, inaccurate or potential harmful- let me know through here, and we will act on it.
