Positive motivation ideas?

Hello,
I'm new to this website so i'm unsure what to say but i would really appreaciate knowing if anyone have some positive motivation tips to get me healthy and attending college? My motivation decreases with my confidence. My 'skiving' from college is due to my eating and my body issues. Any motivation ideas would be great, including practical therapy ideas such as art or dance - particularly clubs aimed at those with either illness. Thankyou!

re: motivation self

One thing that help me motivate myself is by always thinking of my goals in life first thing in the morning and before I go to sleep. I learned this when I was still in school. They have a big thing on motivating self and boosting confidence. Somehow this has stuck with me as I went to college. This somehow energizes me throughout the day.

I completely get you Bethan! None of my family understand yet often have a comment to make! It's really hard to stay motivated. I'm going to set myself some goals to achieve by the end of this month like going out with friends atleast once a week, so i have some order and motivation to keep on. Hopefully this will lead back to a more normal state. Goal-writing can be useful but I always punish myself too much if i dont achieve them so i need to be realistic this time.

Pilates is meant to be good. Helps confidence in your body.

Remember not to set yourself unrealistic goals though, and not to be annoyed with yourself if you cant reach them, you can always try again

goodluck!!

I am not really happy with myself, esspecially at school, my mum says that I am always negitive and that makes them cross sometimes but I don't know what I can do to make myself more optomistic. I already do kick boxing and swimming, I think that is helping with self confidence. Any ideas?

My goals are often unrealistic too Bethan! You just need to do what feels right for you i guess, it's hard to say. I've had a bad today and al goals feel like they've gone out the window.

I've heard pilates and yoga are very good

I'm not better yet no, i'm in a very stuck rut right now. I've avoided my councillor for the past month and a half, i havent gone back to my doc despite the instructions, i keep leaving college and lieing to everyone. I wish i wasn't lieing, that's what hurts me the most, the fact i can stand there and lie directly to the people who only want the best for me. How are you? X

re: Positive motivation ideas?

i found a really good councellor which is the only possative i have at the moment. shes a privite one and local to me. i havent found the adult chams people very helpful. at the moment i cant stop losing weight and i cant get rid of the voice inside my head. my school wont take me back as they think im too ill and they might not let me sit my A levels which are in a few weeks.

why do you feel you have to lie to people? it is much better if your honest with them and tell the how much you are struggling. i cant lie to people i never have been able to. all i know is that my family would be more hurt if i lied to them. next time someone asks how your doing tell them the truth even if you dont want to. you have nothing to be ashamed of, its not your fault. and collage you need to not run away from, it sucks and its really hard, and you feel like everyone is watching you and judging you. i know iv been there. but collage means you think about something else other than your ED which is good. throwing yourself into something that intrests you can just give you some time away from thinking about it.

im always hear to talk. you can do it, you dont have to hide, its not your fault xxx

re: Positive motivation ideas?

Thank you for the encouragment

I think I may need to go to a private councillor too as mine is lovely though hasn't helped with my 'problems'. I have bouts of anorexia, bouts of binge purge and bouts of bulimia. I have gained weight in an unhealthy way. It's just a large battle isn't it!

I may try and write a letter to my Mum jsut expressing things a little more, to see if that helps. Thank you once again x

try writing to your mum and if it doesnt work i will think of some other ideas.

im feeling pretty bad i keep losing weight and my school havent told me when i can go back. im getting really stressed and i have to have an ECG this week. and i have so many councellors and doctors and nurses that i have to see. its so scary and annoying.

im so scared of going into hospital but im so close to it and i dont know how to stop it.

I think if you are near the point of going to hospital you should not fight it Bethan! It seems like you are struggling a lot and you just need a little help which they can provide! Everyone around you and all those in the hospital are there for you, and are wanting to help you as much as they can. You just have to let them

What year are you in at school/college?

I did my AS levels last year and struggled as my mind was clearly elsewhere. In the end my Mum went to see my tutor - he did NOTHING. Honestly, i was extremely mad about the whole situation. He even told me "my sister-in-law is funny with food". I wanted to scream! I am not "funny" with food! He took my case so lightly and it upset me greatly. Hopefully your tutor can help you more!

Perhaps you could make a food diary and slowly increase your intake?

What i would say most of all is embrace all the changes that occur. If you are hospitalised, do not be ashamed! Be happy that you can be helped.

How're you feeling today?

Dear Mila

i am in my AS year, im supprised you dont think i should fight it. im just worried how it will affect my future if i go into hospital and how it will affect my furture imployment. my school thinks that it will make me less stressed by not letting ,me go in which infact is making me more stressed as my exams are in two weeks and i dont even know if i am going to be allowed to sit them.

i have written a food diary already. i just dont know how to let myself increase intake, and going out to eat with peoplei now find really hard.

i didnt talk to my tutor or anyone at my school about it. i just got told to see the school doctor as teachers and students were getting worried about me.

i feel so embarrased and ashamed as well. i hate trying to explain it to people. and knowing that the more i explain it the more i hurt them. i havent told any of my friends at school they jsut keep asking me why i havenet been in for a while and when i will be back. all i keep saying is that im ill and that i will be back when im better.

thank you so much Milia you are a great help and comfort.

I'm glad i can be a little comfort for you

The reason i say you should be okay with going to hospital is because i know of the struggles and lies that come with avoiding things like that. I'm a massive avoider!

I have been unable to eat in public and my councillor has advised me to set small goals, for example saying yes to a meal out simply once a month. Though ofcourse this is not 'simple'!

The stress of your exams should not be made worse by an ed. Ed's can be defeaten and you can do it Bethan it may take months or years, but you definitely can! We can x
