I'm 19 and i'm at the start of recovering from anorexia nervosa. I used Beat website back in May when I first discovered I might have anorexia and following a tough visit to my GP I was diagnosed last June when I was 18. I have since been struggling to start my path of recovery, and relapsed pretty badly last September and was put on anti-depressants. I see my therapist weekly but and I have finally learnt to sustain my weight... too little too late as my BMI is low and if i lose anymore i've been told i'd have to become inpatient against my will. For the time being i'm being allowed to recover in the community with the help of my therapist and parents but i just feel stuck in a rut. I can't get my head around how to even begin weight restoration... I don't want to stay this weight because I hate the way i look but I feel I can't bring myself to eat properly.

I found the comments that were made when i initially used beat really useful and i was hoping that you guys in a similar situation out there can help me?

re: Recovery Inspiration

Hey lennii

Ok recovery inspiration - I'm trying to think back to when I was in your situation so sorry if some of this stuff just feels too impossibly hard to do at the moment:

- first of all you really need to find 'healthy' things to do ( I don't want to say hobbies because that just seems too old fashioned). I found this surprisingly difficult - but if you like fashion maybe try to avoid reading * but look instead at some good beauty/fashion blogs done by real people - * has a fantastic beauty blog and her voice is so soothing it's like a therapy session in itself!

- posters - as you see pictures of healthy strong celebrities in magazines/newspapers cut them out and put them on your wall - they do exist! I found a beautiful Marilyn Monroe recently ).

- keep a list of all the reasons why you want to get better in a notebook and every time you think of a new one jot it down. Eg wanting to be able to eat special food at celebrations without guilty

- try to think about where you will be in 5 or 6 years time if you don't make steps forward

I was an inpatient twice and it honestly can help to 'get the ball rolling'. Another thing was that I saw a lot of people older than me whose lives had been wrecked by eating disorders (one of the wards I was on was adolescents and adults). I just thought 'I don't want to be like that'

I really hope this helps - sorry if it's all totally irrelevant
