About the message boards

Please note: Beat's new website and new message boards

We were delighted to receive funding from The Amy Winehouse Foundation to develop a new Beat website which will have improved functionality, better navigation and updated information. Our online services will be changing and we will be using new and improved message boards and chat software. This will allow us to provide a better service to anyone affected by eating disorders or difficulties with food, weight and shape.

If you have previously used our message boards, we will not be accepting new posts until the new website goes live in January 2015. Also content from the current message boards will not be transferred to the site. If you would like to keep a record of your posts please take screenshots or copy and paste any content you wish to keep. Click here to find out more

Welcome to the Beat message boards. The message boards are a place where you can seek some day to day support in a non-judgemental and understanding environment. The boards are for anyone who is concerned either about themselves, or about someone who is suffering.

These message boards are moderated in order to safeguard our service users, but Beat does understand the importance and value of sharing your experiences with other people who understand what you are going through.

We fully appreciate that each person affected by an eating disorder has an individual experience, and that each person may be at a different stage in their recovery. Everyone is welcome to the Beat message boards and we hope that you find the support that you are looking for.

The message board is administrated by the Beat message board team. We are available to post messages Monday - Friday 10.30am – 6.30pm. Messages will not be posted on weekends and bank holidays.

Please remember the Message Board team is only human. We may post messages in error or there may be technical problems that are out of our control. We ask all Message Board Users to be patient; we always try and resolve problems as quickly as possible. We aim to moderate all message board posts within 48 hours.

When you register with the message boards, it can take up to 48 hours for your account to be activated and you cannot post a message straight away. Once the account has been activated, you will receive an email informing you that you are now able to post on the message boards. If a username is inappropriate or identifying, you will be sent an email asking you to re-register with the boards with a different username. In order to allow you to re-register, Beat has to delete your account. This is to ensure you have no difficulties in re-registering with the boards and accessing the support that you are looking for, and to avoid any technical problems with the registration process of the message boards.

Types of message board – We have two separate message boards. The Youth message boards are for people who are aged 25 and under. The adult message boards are for people aged 18 and over. There are many different sections, including “Eating Disorders”, “Inspirations for Recovery” and “Men’s Issues” on each of the message boards. For more information on how to use the message boards please do have a look at our “How to use the message boards” section.
