What is the Recovery Club?

The Recovery Club is a unique service and the focus of each club will be on your recovery and how you can gain support to initiate and continue the recovery process. The club will feature facilitators including healthcare professionals working in the eating disorder field and young ambassadors who have had a personal experience of an eating disorder, who will share their experiences with you and offer you their thoughts about recovery.

The Recovery Club will enable you to share your feelings and both give and gain support from other young people affected by an eating disorder. Throughout the clubs you will be able to ask questions and gain insight from young people in recovery or recovered from an eating disorder, the beat youth team and healthcare professionals. A member of the beat youth team and I will be moderating each club, to ensure that you feel safe and comfortable and we will be available throughout the club to offer you encouragement to begin the recovery process.

Recovery is an ongoing process and unfortunately beat cannot make recovery happen for you. However, we do hope that through the Recovery Clubs we will be able to offer you support through your decision to change and seek the help that you need to start the process of recovery. The most important thing to remember even during really difficult times is that recovery is possible, it can happen for you and you do deserve to get better.

Important things to remember about the Recovery Club

  • Beat is a pro-recovery organisation
  • As spaces for the Recovery Club are limited we would encourage you to attend the sessions that are most appropriate or relevant to your stage of recovery
  • We cannot offer you a diagnosis
  • The Recovery Club does not substitute professional help. It is great that you have chosen to use this service but as an organisation we always encourage people to seek professional support to help them overcome their eating disorder.
  • As the Recovery Club will only be held on a monthly basis, we would like to remind you that you can access other beat support outside of the Recovery Club
  • If you feel uncomfortable during the recovery club session, please notify the moderator or a youth team member
  • Each member of the club is entitled to help and support with their eating disorder. Be aware that each person’s recovery is unique to them therefore you might not all have the same thoughts and experiences as other Recovery Club users. This doesn’t mean that your feelings are any less valid. You are important and deserving of help and support
  • Try to respect one another’s boundaries and be mindful of other service users’ feelings
  • Please read through the livechat rules, so you are aware of what is permitted and prohibited
  • We do not allow members to exchange personal information or contact details to protect all users and provide a safe environment for all
